Most visitors to Banff rent a car or take a regularly scheduled shuttle bus (C$40, price subject to change) from the airport. A rental car is the best option for visitors wishing to explore a bit off the beaten path or do day trips outside of town. Car rentals are available via this Web site. Note: Visitors who rent cars are required to purchase a National Parks pass for C$10 per night spent in the park, or C$70 for an annual pass.

The outdoor recreation options in Banff National Park are almost limitless. Foot excursions range from short, self-guided nature walks to challenging mountaineering routes. Fishing and canoeing can be enjoyed in summer on the nearby Bow River, and horseback riding is popular.
